She is of mixed heritage, with her mother, Vilailuck "Pepper" Teigen, hailing from Thailand, and her father, Ron Teigen Sr., of Norwegian descent. During her early years, the family moved frequently, living in Hawaii, Idaho, and Washington before settling in Huntington Beach, California, when Chrissy was a teenager. It was in Huntington Beach that she was discovered by a photographer while working at a surf shop, leading to her entry into the modeling industry. ​
